He wears a bright blue hoodie and stands near a wooden signpost pointing to “Mountains” and “Lake.” Two bicycles and a campfire are set up near the motorhome, which is parked on a grassy field under a blue sky filled with fluffy clouds. The scene captures Leo’s joy, the freedom of motorhome life, and the spirit of accessible outdoor adventure.

We’re Helen and Leo, a mother and son exploring the world from the cozy heart of our motorhome, Benny. Our story is one of love, laughter, and the lucky few.

Leo’s diagnosis of Trisomy 21 means that change can be overwhelming, so we used to hire a motorhome to see if the open road could offer the freedom we craved, without the stress. It did. With Leo’s familiar things around him, the world became a little easier to navigate. The only thing that changed was the view outside the window. It had long been a dream to buy our own.

A basket of fresh vegetables lies nearby. The warm scene reflects their motorhome life and shared adventures from “Cooking, Campfires and Chromosomes.”

Palm trees and soft sunlight frame the background, capturing a joyful, affectionate moment that reflects their loving bond, family travel life, and the spirit of inclusion and connection.

In December 2024, we made that dream a reality. We bought lovely ol’ Benny, rolled up our sleeves, and gave him a new floor, a warm bathroom, and a living space that feels like a hug. He’s more than a vehicle, he’s our home, our haven, and the beginning of every new adventure.

We travel to teach life skills, foster independence, and fill our days with love and learning. Living in a small space means being organized, tidy, and thoughtful, and Leo’s thriving. Whether he’s helping set up camp, packing away with pride, or waving like royalty at passing drivers, Leo spreads joy like sparks from a campfire.

His hands rest on a sculpted ride or play structure, and the blurred background shows a sunny day with people walking and colorful stalls behind him. The image captures Leo’s joyful spirit and presence, reflecting themes of accessibility, inclusion, and daily life with Down syndrome.

He’s funny, kind, and full of sunshine. Music runs through him like a heartbeat, always dancing, always singing, always lifting the mood.

His biggest goal in life is simple and beautiful: he just wants everyone to be happy.

We share our journey not just to document our days, but to raise awareness about inclusion and accessibility. Most of the places we visit go above and beyond to accommodate Leo’s unique needs, and we’re endlessly grateful for that. But sometimes, people look past him. They don’t smile. They don’t see. And while Leo rarely shows hurt, I feel it deeply. I protect him, shield his heart when I can, and advocate always.

Helen, with long curly red hair, gently rests her arm around Leo, who wears a sun hat and blue shirt. The scene captures a quiet moment of connection, travel, and reflection, emphasizing the beauty of nature, family bonds, and accessible exploration.

Our page is about sharing meals made from fresh local produce, reviewing how inclusive the world really is, and showing how extraordinary life can be when you embrace the extra.

If you’d like to be part of the journey, you can even help choose where we head next on our social media channels. It’s a little way to make things more interactive, and it means we never really travel alone.
